What is the AI Communication Assistant?

The Empatalk AI Communication Assistant is a free tool that rephrases any message you’re about to send so it lands the way you want — tuned to the actual person on the other side. Tell it who they are (their relationship to you, communication style, tone preference, what they value, even rough age and country), paste your draft, and you get one or two alternate phrasings with a brief explanation of why each version fits.

Most AI writing tools optimise for grammar — they fix typos, smooth syntax, soften tone in a generic way. The AI Communication Assistant optimises for fit: would a direct, data-driven manager respond better to this version, or to the warmer, context-rich one? It’s the same persona-aware engine that powers our Slack bot, built on the Communication DNA framework we use across the rest of Empatalk.

No sign-up, no credit card, no exported writing history. Three free rewrites a day per browser. After that, map your own Communication DNA in five minutes and unlock unlimited use — plus a profile that lets anyone messaging you phrase it in your style automatically.

How the AI Communication Assistant works

  1. Step 1

Pick how they like to be talked to

Four quick choices: their relationship to you, their communication style, their tone, and what they value most. No survey, no signup.

  2. Step 2

    Paste your draft

Whatever you were about to send — a Slack message, an email opener, a difficult ask. The original stays private and never gets stored.

  3. Step 3

    Get a version that lands

Empatalk rewrites your message in their language and tells you why each choice fits. Tweak the persona, regenerate, learn what works.

AI message-rewrite examples

Three sample personas, three messages, three rewrites — each tuned to a different recipient style.

Direct manager · brevity

Your draft

I think the deadline might be slipping a bit and I'm worried we won't make it in time without help.

Empatalk says

We're slipping the deadline. Need one more engineer to land it on time — can you spare Sam for the next two days? • Why this fits: your manager values brevity and data — they want the diagnosis and the ask, not the worry.

Diplomatic peer · context

Your draft

Your code review feedback was wrong. The function I wrote is actually correct.

Empatalk says

Want to walk through the function together? I think we may have been looking at it from different angles, and I want to make sure I understand your concern before changing the implementation. • Why this fits: a diplomatic peer needs to feel like a collaborator, not a critic — opening with curiosity instead of correction protects the working relationship.

Casual friend · warmth

Your draft

I cannot make dinner tonight. Something came up.

Empatalk says

Argh, I have to bail on dinner tonight — something just landed on me and I won't get free in time. Really sorry. Rain-check this week? • Why this fits: a friend who values warmth needs to feel acknowledged, not just informed. Naming the regret + a concrete reschedule shows the cancellation isn't about them.

AI Communication Assistant — FAQ

Is this really free?

Yes — three rewrites per browser per day, no credit card. After that, sign up to map your own Communication DNA and unlock unlimited rewrites for everyone who wants to message you.

Do you store the messages I paste in?

No. Your draft is sent to OpenAI to generate the rewrite, then thrown away. We don't log it, don't train on it, don't keep it. The persona choices are stored anonymously to help us improve the underlying survey.

How is the AI trained?

Empatalk uses OpenAI gpt-4o-mini with a prompt grounded in our Communication DNA framework — the same one that powers our Slack bot and team-compatibility analyses. We do not fine-tune on user data.

Does it work in Slack?

Yes — once you've mapped your own Communication DNA and connected Slack, anyone in your workspace can use the /empatalk match command to get the same rewrites for messages they're about to send to you.

Why only four persona fields?

They cover the dimensions that move the rewrite the most: relationship, directness, formality, and what the person prioritises. The full Empatalk survey goes deeper — but for a one-shot rewrite, four fields is enough to get a meaningfully different output.

What if the rewrite is wrong?

Tweak the persona and regenerate. The point of the demo is to feel how the same message reads completely differently when you change the assumptions about your audience — that gap is where most miscommunication lives.

Want this for everyone who messages you?

Map your own Communication DNA in 5 minutes. Then anyone who wants to message you can use Empatalk to phrase it the way you’ll best receive it.
